Where it was filmed 'Libera, my love!'

Maura Bolognini’s film tells the story of one woman, Libera Valente’s, fight against fascism, which ends up involving her family, made up of Matteo Zanoni and her two children Carlo and Anna.

Libera, who fails to remain indifferent to everything going on around her, moves first to Livorno and then to Modena, of which the film features Piazza Grande and the Calle dei Campionesi. Also in the area between Modena and Soliera is the River Secchia, along which the scene of the explosion organised by Libera takes place.

When the protagonist moves again during the war the scene shifts to Padua. The scenes depicting brutal fascist executions were also filmed in Emilia Romagna, in Scandiano (Reggio Emilia), of which we see Piazza della Libertà and the Rocca dei Boiardo.

Some scenes were also shot in Rome, and more specifically in Piazzale Antonio Tosti, near Viale Tor Marancia in the Ardeatino district.
