The film is based on Kuki Gallmann’s autobiographical novel and the first part is set in Veneto, where Kuki lives with her son in Venice. Shooting took place in many locations in the region, including Asolo, a small village in the Marca Trevigiana hills (province of Treviso) whose Scuola Materna De Amicis in Piazzetta Pio X can be seen while Possagno (TV) where the Gypsotheca e Museo Antonio Canova, which conserves all the original plaster models for the works of Antonio Canova, provides the setting for a conversation between Kuki and her mother.
Other places seen in the film are Castelfranco Veneto and Vicenza, where the Piazza dei Signori and the Piazzetta Palladio provided a backdrop for the opening scenes of the evening party.
