Where it was filmed 'Misericordia'

Misericordia is based on Emma Dante’s play of the same name, it tells the story of events in Contrada Tuono, a coastal village of rough stone huts, illegally occupied by families and individuals on the margins of society. They include Arturo, now eighteen years old, who was born into poverty and violence. His mother died giving birth to him and ever since Betta, Nuccia and young Anna, prostitutes like his mother, have taken care of him.

But Arturo is different to everyone else, in an unusual way; at times he is like a child, at others an old soul. He was born with a defect, he moves in a strange way, he experiences the world with a different soul. He considers the people around him without fear, just like the mountain he climbs. He is invisible among the invisible and must fight, like everyone in Contrada Tuono, for survival, but his pure and different gaze is redolent with hope.

The film was shot in Palermo and Trapani. The village of Contrada Tuono was created in the province of Trapani, mostly in the Monte Cofano Nature Reserve, a magical treasure chest of great natural importance located between San Vito Lo Capo and Trapani. Scenes were also filmed at Punta Tipa and in the Casa Santa area on San Giuliano beach and lungomare Dante Alighieri.
