Between the late 1950s and early 1960s, Rome experienced a moment of great artistic and cultural activity where actors, painters, nobles and cultural figures were inspired by the search for a life of unstoppable pleasure. The central point of this era was Via Veneto whose cafès were crowded every evening with the old glories of Italian and American cinema. It was easy to run into paparazzi hunting for a scoop or the perfect shot of famous cinema stars and those in search of fame amidst the tables of places like Harry’s Bar, Doney, Gran Cafè Roma, Cafè de Paris, which were all located on the stretch that links Piazza Barberini to Porta Pinciana, less than 1 km long.
Federico Fellini, in his genius, immortalized this historical moment, its characters and the street itself in his masterpiece La dolce vita (1960).
