Lungomare di Itri

Punta Cetarola, Sperlonga, LT, Italia

Description

Itri (LT) can be found in the foothills of the Aurunci mountains, a little borgo settled in a valley, slightly ascending the arid slopes. The historical centre was largely destroyed during WWII. Despite this the castle at the centre of the village and its immediate surroundings are still intact. The Church of St. Christopher stands on the hill of the same name on the slopes of mount Garda. It has been completely abandoned and is roofless, choked by the vegetation around it. One of the still visible frescoes shows the treatment post mortem of the “bue muto” (“dumb ox”), the nickname given to St Thomas Aquinas by his classmates because of his corpulence and taciturn nature.
To the south, the lungomare (seashore) of Itri has a rocky, craggy coastline called punta Cetarola where a picturesque pebble beach situated between Gaeta and Sperlonga is called flacca antica (or delle bambole).
