The Bosco monumentale del Sasseto, at the foot of the Castle of Torre Alfina near Acquapendente (VT), offers visitors a most unique atmosphere, with long paths winding through rocks and hills of all sizes, and majestic trees, centuries old, whose hollow trunks and twisted branches make it the perfect fairy-tale forest.
Its history is linked to Marquis Edoardo Cahen who bought a vast estate in Torre Alfina, comprising the castle, part of the borgo and the uncultivated land beneath it, in the late 1800s and made this wild and once impenetrable place accessible, transforming it into his last residence. He created a labyrinth of routes in perfect harmony with nature and, hidden amidst the vegetation, built a small Neogothic mausoleum.
