Description

The Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, known as the Sanctuary of Montenero, is located on the Monte Nero hill in Livorno, in a picturesque position which surveys the sea and harbour. The sanctuary which dates to the 12th century, features multiple buildings standing on a rectangular square which is accessed by a staircase. The main building is the 17th century church, which has a front cloister flanked by a bell tower and features an inlaid wooden ceiling by Pietro Giambelli. Since 1792 it has housed the Vallombrosani Benedictine Monks.
