19-05-2023

A partnership agreement concerning films and series shot in the country’s regions was signed at the Cannes Film Festival

Italy for Movies, Italy’s portal for locations and production incentives, and Sky Italia have announced a new partnership to expand the content on offer with material from Sky’s new Original productions.

With the memorandum of understanding presented today at the Cannes Film Festival, the portal and the media company join forces in promoting and showcasing Italy’s regions and the Made in Italy brand.

Thanks to this non-exclusive, two-year agreement, Sky will embellish the content of the Italy for Movies portal with material from its new productions:  news from the sets, backstage clips, videos, interviews and information about the locations.  Thanks to this exchange, Italy for Movies will create summaries for the films and TV series, themed journey itineraries, photo galleries and textual content, making the most of an exclusive and privileged window onto the most eagerly awaited productions, the words of creators and stars and updates to produce a captivating new way to explore the places and beauty of Italy.

Commissioned by MiC – Direzione Generale Cinema e Audiovisivo (Ministry of Culture – Directorate General of Cinema and Audiovisual) and managed by Cinecittà in collaboration with the association Italian Film Commission, Italy for Movies boasts a database of approximately 2,500 locations in the country, a search engine and numerous interactive summaries, updates from the set, and itineraries that allow the user to explore the map of Italy and plan a journey around the most iconic film locations.

In just 5 years, it has become the “map” of Italian cinema for professionals and fans with a website, an app and a news section, offering summaries of the production incentives for shooting in Italy and many other services for those in the industry.

This constantly-updated tool for industry professionals is also an entertaining guide for everyone in this unprecedented moment for Italy, once again an open-air set, offering locations for films, TV series and an increasing number of international productions. This moment of renewed passion from the audiovisual community, which invests the boundless beauty of the country’s heritage and her creative industry, a jewel in the crown of Italy’s cultural offer to the world.

“We are very happy to announce this partnership with Sky Italia', said Chiara Sbarigia, Cinecittà President.  “It has the strategic purpose of promoting the Italy for Movies portal, making the tool increasingly efficient in attracting and showcasing Italy, in addition to publicizing the country’s resources and productions.  A registered 70% increase in contacts is due to relationships with international professionals, especially those from the United States, thanks also to our key collaboration with ITA Los Angeles and its portal “Italy meets Hollywood”'.  She also announced the production of a documentary series that will showcase the variety and beauty of Italy’s locations.

‘Italy offers a range of landscapes that make the country an extraordinary set for a wide variety of stories. It is not by chance that Sky chose to set many Sky Originals in the country, thereby helping to share the marvels of Italy with the world.  We are very happy about the partnership with Italy for Movies and we hope that the images from our sets will serve as inspiration for many producers and directors, at home and abroad’ said Antonella D’Errico, EVP Content of Sky Italia.

'The agreement with Sky Italia”, said Nicola Borrelli, Director General of Cinema and audiovisual at the Ministry of Culture, “is an admirable example of public – private partnership in a context, the promotion of Italy in the audio-visual industry, that sees us all moving in the same direction:  showcasing the vast wealth and variety of our magnificent locations, especially the lesser-known.  And thanks also to a series of agreements similar to the one we announce today, and to our renewed agreement with the Film Commissions, Italy for Movies is progressively growing in its role as information provider, supporting producers interested in shooting in Italy, in line with the increasingly efficient and connected public strategies of internationalisation and investment attraction.”
