Where it was filmed 'The Best Offer'

“Living with a woman is like participating in an auction. You never know if yours is the best offer”

The film was shot in the cities of Trieste, Milan, Fidenza and in Alto Adige (Bolzano, Ora and Merano). Some scenes were also filmed in Vienna and Prague.

Claire’s historical home is actually Villa Colloredo Mels Mainardi, which is located in Gorizzo near Udine. The gate of the villa was added in post-production while the road leading to the gate of the residence is actually Via Guido Corsi in Trieste. The bar overlooking the villa is located in Via Giorgio Galatti in Trieste, but through the magic of film, the villa and the bar, which are actually located 80km apart, are made to occupy the same frame, separated only by a piazza. Virgil’s friend Robert’s workshop is instead located in Piazza Guglielmo Oberdan.

Many of the indoor locations were reconstructed in a warehouse in Ora, in the province of Bolzano.

Virgil’s home is actually Palazzo Pallavicini in Josefsplatz, Vienna, while Prague is home to the ‘U Milosrdnycha Pub’ in the Staré Mèsto district, the bar full of mechanisms where the protagonist waits for Claire in vain.

Plot

Virgil Oldman is a famous antique dealer and auctioneer who has dedicated his life to his passion for art without ever enjoying the company of a woman by his side. His monotonous and solitary existence changes when he is contacted by a girl who asks him to auction off the items in her villa. However, his client keeps herself hidden away from the antique dealer, and Virgil finds himself becoming steadily more entranced by the mysterious young woman and the ancient mechanisms he finds strewn around her home, which he believes belong to Jacques de Vaucanson’s famous automatron.
