'The Italian Recipe'

A contemporary retelling of Roman Holiday, which is one of the most beloved and best-known films for the huge cinema audiences of Asia, where two young protagonists, evoking Gregory Peck & Audrey Hepburn, spend an entire night wandering the streets of Rome, the city which provides the backdrop to their love story. A romantic game which features the capital’s most iconic places: the Colosseum, piazza di Spagna, conservatory of Santa Cecilia, the Imperial fora which provide a spectacular setting for their first kiss, the Spanish steps, Castel Sant'Angelo, the Trevi fountain where, as per tradition, Peng and Mandy throw a coin, the lungotevere river road (backdrop for endless walks), the shopping streets, and central Hotel de la Ville, where Peng stays on his arrival in Rome.

The film was tailored  for the massive Chinese audience, incorporating the elements that are key to the popular image of Italy in Asia where the romance of the Bel Paese is not wholly dependent on splendid tourist destinations: the film features the pair riding a Vespa, a global Italian icon; Italy’s football victories over Germany; an Aperol spritz with a view of the roofs of Rome; music, with Ennio Morricone’s “Tema d’amore” from Cinema Paradiso played by the protagonist; and food and cuisine, celebrated in Mandy’s secret dream of becoming a great chef like her idol, Antonino Cannavacciuolo.
