The Magazzino del Sale in Cervia (RA), also known as Magazzino Darsena, was built in 1712 to store salt after the first cleaning and drying cycle in the Magazzino Torre, on the opposite side of the Canal.
The 4.000m2 Magazzino Darsena could hold up to 100,000 quarter tons of salt which was harvested from spring to mid-September, loaded onto flat-bottomed barges named burchielle and taken through Porto Canale to the warehouses for storage. To make the work of transferring the salt easier, the two buildings were connected by an iron bridge.
In 1959, following a decrease in demand for salt and the transformation of the salt flats, the warehouses lost their initial purpose and were slowly abandoned.
