The Alda Merini Bridge, also known as the “stone bridge”, stands on the Naviglio Grande in Milan, opposite what was the poet Alda Merini’s house in ripa di Porta Ticinese.
The original wooden construction dating to 1531 was known as the bridge of the little Madonna because of a sacred painting in via Corsico. The bridge was rebuilt in cast iron under Austrian rule, and again, in the 1900s, in the cement and steel version present today.
