04-02-2022

Creative Europe MEDIA has published the first four calls for proposals for the current year.

Films on the Move (deadline: 15 March 2022) has an annual budget of €16 million and is aimed at consortiums of 7 (minimum) distributors from different eligible countries coordinated by a cinema sales agent, who propose to distribute one or more recent non-national European films.

Eligible films are recent works of fiction (including animated films) or documentaries, 60 minutes in length or more, majority produced by one or more registered producers established in the countries participating in the MEDIA strand and whose production involved the significant participation of industry professionals who are nationals/residents of countries participating in the MEDIA strand.

The objective of MEDIA 360° (deadline 12 April 2022) support is to exploit synergies among existing ecosystems, to develop further cooperation potential, to reach economies of scale across different supported activities and to create impact across the value-chain.

The action supports a package of activities related to facilitating the creation and promotion of European content, and/or the uptake of new technologies or business models for the audiovisual sector.

Projects must cover activities in at least two of the following segments:

  • Activities covered by "Talent and skills" support: training courses and/or programmes based on innovative learning, teaching, mentoring and coaching methods, using the latest digital technologies, with a strong focus on e-learning provision and the creation of MOOCs;
  • Activities covered by "Markets and networking" support:  promoting European and international co-productions; facilitating access to professional audio-visual trade events and markets; increasing circulation of European works, in Europe and worldwide;
  • Support for international co-production;
  • Activities covered by the support to the development and/or the spread of “Innovative tools and business models” to increase the availability, visibility and audience of European works;
  • Activities aimed at Audiences that provide mechanisms for pan-European cooperation with the aim of stimulating interest and increasing knowledge of European films, including heritage.

Special attention will be given to applications presenting adequate strategies to create a more environmentallysustainable industry and ensure gender balance, inclusion, and diversity.

NEWS-Media Literacy (deadline: 6 April 2022) is aimed in particular at:

  • pan-European consortia, with the objective of scaling up best practices across national, cultural and linguistic borders, developing media literacy tools and actions to ensure the transfer of such practices to the widest possible audience, covering different tpes of media delivery modalities;
  • forums for the exchange of best practices around specific age groups, groups with limited media literacy skills or access, or those at risk of social exclusion;
  • support for media literacy professionals to adapt their practices to fast developing media formats and changing media consumption patterns.

Media literacy aims to allow citizens to develop a critical understanding and use of the media.

All proposals should consider citizen inclusiveness, civic engagement and participatory culture as a fundamental aspect of their proposal.

Networks of European Festivals (deadline 7 April 2022) supports coordinated/collaborative activities among European audiovisual festivals aiming at increasing audiences' interest in non-national European audiovisual content and promoting its circulation and visibility.

The results expected are:
