Where it was filmed 'Rocco and his brothers'

A family of migrants arrives in Milan and goes to live in a basement on the outskirts of the city. The streets and squares of Lombardy’s capital tell the story of the five brothers and how they make their living.

Simone (Renato Salvatori) becomes a boxer, his first match is at Milan’s Maspes-Vigorelli Velodrome, built for cycle racing and later used for American football. He falls in love with Nadia (Annie Girardot) and takes her to Bellagio (CO). The hotel admired by the couple as they walk is the Gran Bretagne on Lungolago Europa.

Rocco (Alain Delon) leaves for military service: he is barracked in Forte Michelangelo near the harbour of Civitavecchia (RM) and the station di Civitavecchia where he casually meets Nadia. On his return from military service, Rocco expects to find his entire family waiting for him, but there is only his mother: his brothers are all at the baptism of the son of Vincenzo and Ginetta at Chiesa di Santa Francesca Cabrini, in the Nomentano neighbourhood of Rome.

When Simone finds out that Rocco is spending time with Nadia, he goes to look for him in the Ghisolfa, neighbourhood North West of Milan. There the two brothers fight, marking their painful and decisive separation.

The Idroscalo of Milan where Simone goes to look for Nadia in one of the most dramatic scenes of the film is actually Lago di Fogliano (LT). The spiers of the Duomo di Milano had been the backdrop to the scene of the poignant farewell between Rocco and Nadia.
