Il Viaggio is set along the so-called Italian Trans-Siberian Railway, or rather the stretch of track between Carpinone (IS), in Molise, and Silmona (AQ), in Abruzzo. The Molise ventured into by the protagonists is unspoiled and magical. Filming took place in the piazza of San Pietro Avellana (IS), at the Convent of Ripalimosani (CB) and in Campobasso, more specifically in Via Insorti d’Ungheria. Filming in Abruzzo took place in the town of Lanciano (CH) and wrapped in Palena (CH), one of the highest railway stations in Italy.
