The Carbosulcis mine is the last coal mine in the Sulcis and in Italy. It provides work for a team of 150 miners including Patrizia, the only woman in the country in this hard line of work. It is located in Nuraxi Figus, in the province that has been deemed the poorest in Italy, Carbonia-Iglesias. The mine has been losing money for years and is considered uneconomic, so is at risk of being closed. The workers decide to occupy it: the protest lasts seven days and is suspended when it is announced that the mine will not close at the end of the year.

Patrizia is the only female miner in Italy. Each day she descend 500 metres beneath the earth’s surface, challenging darkness, fear, and a crew of 150 men. The mine faces shutdown. A parallel universe that wants to be discovered, and a new, proudly feminine perspective on the world underground.
