The aim of the game, as the official site tells us, is “not only to discover the archaeological artefact but also the context where the ancient community living in the area north of Basilicata developed.” Hold The Hut allows the player to find out about the habits and customs of a typical family of the time and about the building techniques used in these ancient dwellings.
The main character of the game is not only the artefact, but also its setting, i.e. the Comune di San Chirico Nuovo and contrada Serra. The intention of the game is to raise awareness of the area’s heritage and “to encourage possible visitors to see the unique artefact that is the archaic hut.”

The creation of Hold The Hut is linked to the archaeological discovery of a sixth century BCE hut on the site of Serra, in San Chirico Nuovo (province of Potenza). The game makes it possible to explore the hut and discover historical information and facts about it. Hold The Hut unfolds in episodes: the path has puzzles and quizzes and also includes a section in Augmented Reality. The last episode can only be completed by going to the archaeological site.
The game was designed and produced by Effenove as part of the safeguarding and promotional effort directed by the Comune di San Chirico Nuovo and the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio della Basilicata, and was sponsored by Serra Energie and PLC System, with contributions from Nei Restauro e Costruzioni Srl.
