In the suburbs of Gioia Tauro (Calabria) Chiara Guerrasio (Swamy Rotolo) lives a typical adolescent life: the gym, her family, the girlfriends she meets up with often by the sea and school (the school scenes were shot at the Istituto Severi in Gioia Tauro and Istituto superiore N. Pizi in Palmi). Her carefree existence is shattered when her father is forced to go on the run after a Mafia warning. Her father’s absence changes her perspective and doesn’t stop her wanting to find out the truth noone in her family wants to tell her. The countryside and suburban roads are Ciambra, where a Roma community lives, and the nearby village of Seminara.
The final part of the film is set in a completely different setting: Chiara is celebrating her birthday with a group of friends spending the evening in piazza del Rinascimento in Urbino, dominated by an Egyptian obelisk. The Ducal Palace, Renaissance jewel that houses the National Gallery of Le Marche, is behind her in the scene that follows.
