The aqueduct-bridge of Pondel (Pont d'Aël in French) is situated in the village of Pondel in the municipality of Aymavilles at the entrance to Val di Cogne, where the river Grand-Eyvia flows. Its construction can be dated to 3 B.C.E. because of the inscription on its north face which also identifies its owner and commissioner, a prestigious Roman businessman who needed to bring water to the marble quarries further down the valley.
The bridge is over 50m long and is supported by a single arch at approx. 56m above the river gorge. Today, after a range of intervention works, the bridge can be used, following its original circular itinerary which leads from the upper conduit to the internal pedestrian level from the entrance on the left bank. This route leads eventually to the right bank where the ancient Roman service road has been recreated with a steel walkway.
