The exhibition complex Fiera Milano Rho, inaugurated in 2005, is considered one of the most modern and important in Europe. Designed by the architect Massimiliano Fuksas, it rises in an area that previously held a refinery (owned by ENI) closed in 1993.
It consists of 20 large pavilions on both sides of Corso Italia, a pedestrian street over 1km long which holds cafes, meeting places and restaurants for a total of 345,000 m2 of covered exhibition space and 60,000 m2 of open air areas. The complex has 5 access points for cargo and all the pavilions can be reached by vehicle to assist in setting up and breaking down.
Set in the outskirts of the city, in the Rho neighbourhood, it is linked by the underground system and railways and offers parking for 14,000. The open air spaces of the Fiera are used for concerts and music festivals especially the area known as the Largo delle Nazioni.
