Description

In the region of Friuli, a special place where the only inhabitants are hares, birds, wild boars and other animals allows nature to reign supreme: the Magredi. The area occupies over 10,000 hectares and extends across 12 municipalities in the province of Pordenone, including Cordenons and Vivaro, and is home to an immense faunal heritage, among the richest in Northern Italy.
The word "magredo" comes from Friulian and means lean land: arid and with a shortage of water due to the number of stones. In summer the grassy expanses of the magredi are dry and parched by the sun, reminiscent of the steppes of Eastern Europe.
