The Old Guard – a series for Netflix – is shooting on the Roman coast with a cast that includes A-listers like Charlize Theron. The production shot for several days in via del Faro, in the old harbour of Fiumicino, focussing on the harbour scales, the ruins of a building once used for harbour signalling and the body of water near the mouth of the Tiber river, transforming the entire area into the reproduction of a warzone.
The series, produced by Eagle Pictures and directed by Victoria Mahoney, is the adaptation of the 2020 film, also entitled The Old Guard, which was in turn based on the fantasy comic created by Greg Rucka. Charlize Theron, with an unusual Gothic look, plays Andromache of Scythia, the leader of a group of immortal mercenaries fighting to protect the mortal world. The cast also includes Luca Marinelli and Uma Thurman.
Shooting is scheduled to continue in the centre of Rome and then return to the coastline, this time heading for the Perugini family’s “tree house” in via Marina di Campo, Fregene, which will provide the setting for a forest on stilts.
