Film Commission d’Abruzzo: first presentation scheduled for Santa Monica

22-10-2019

The Advisory Board of the brand-new Film Commission d’Abruzzo will be presented on 9 November during the American Film Market in Santa Monica, California. It includes talent who live and work in Hollywood but have roots in Abruzzo. This is an opportunity to give visibility to an area filled with places that neither the big screen nor tourism have yet discovered, where the variety of natural landscapes (the Region has the highest density of protected parks in Europe) includes borghi, hermitages, castles and architectural jewels, all dosed with an aura of mysticism and traditions which are mostly unknown to those who do not have a daily relationship with the area.

This area was recently rediscovered by two large-scale, international productions: The New Pope, TV series from the Oscar winning director Paolo Sorrentino, shot in the Hermitage of Santo Spirito on the Maiella mountain range, and The Name of the Rose, which also used the Hermitage and the Castle of Roccascalegna. Abruzzo has provided the background for over 100 films, some of which are part of Italian film history such as Federico Fellini’s La Strada and Matteo Garrone’s Tale of Tales, chosen by directors like Liliana Cavani, the Taviani Brothers and Mario Monicelli, and stars like George Clooney or Michelle Pfeiffer whose role in LadyHawke rendered the settings of Campo Imperatore and Rocca Calascio unforgettable on the screen.
