Where it was filmed 'Un paese quasi perfetto'

The fictional town of Pietramezzana is not all that fictional, its name being a mix of two real towns located in the province of Potenza where the film was shot: Pietrapertosa and Castelmezzano. The two towns are linked by the ‘Angel Flight’, which involves travelling along a steel cable 1000m above the ground, and offers a unique view of the breathtaking landscape of the Lucanian Dolomites. Castelmezzano, which has been named as one of the “most beautiful villages in Italy”, is a tangle of medieval alleyways and houses with sandstone roofs. Pietrapertosa is structured in a similar way; it too is medieval and protected by the rocks it was built on.
The film’s locations also include the Pertosa-Auletta Caves, a network of underground cavities located in Pertosa in the province of Salerno, where the entrance to the disused mine, once the pride and joy of Pietramezzana, was reconstructed.
