Primo Spaggiari (Ugo Tognazzi), a businessman, lives with his wife Barbara in a villa in Langhirano (PR), not far from the Castle of Torrechiara. While looking at the castle, the couple spot a helicopter that will soon after circle their home. The day of his birthday, Primo watched his son being kidnapped from the roof of his factory, the former Latteria Sociale di Piadena (CR). This is how the race to raise one billion lire for the ransom begins. After going to the bank to have his cheese factory valued, the man realise he is being followed by a car and ducks into vicolo del Vescovado in Parma, just steps from the piazza Duomo. He is being followed by Adelfo, a priest who works in his factory and is friends with his son Giovanni. Adelfo arranges to meet at his house, a rural building in Molteolo – actually via Cavo in Lesignano de’ Bagni (PR). Raising the cash takes Primo to another building in via Cardinal Ferrari, again close to the central Piazza Duomo. In nearby piazzale Alberto Rondani, at the height of the Caprazucca bridge over River Parma, is the studio of the card reader convinced that the kidnapped boy is alive.
