In the Po Valley, the effects of the recent war are visible in the poverty of the people, the fields that need demining before they can be cultivated, the bridges that need rebuilding and the desperation for work to be able to start again. A newly-wed couple is heading back to their jobs in the fields with a farming cooperative based in Emilia Romagna on a lorry that is taking the money needed to buy land and equipment. The film was shot in the countryside around Ravenna– Marina di Ravenna and Marina Romea (viale Italia and viale dei Pioppi) – and in the Comacchio Valleys.

A lorry carrying newlyweds, Giovanna and Michele, and the accountant of an agricultural farming cooperative, who is taking four million to the head-office, is attacked by bandits who kill the accountant and the driver, steal the money and kidnap Giovanna. Farmworkers and carabinieri start a man hunt.
