Built in the early 20th century, the brick furnace in Moie was originally managed by local artisans. In 1915, Prof. Eugenio Mazzarini bought it to create a large industrial building, as part of his innovative business strategy. In 2004 renovations began on the former furnace, and a project was launched to turn it into a library.
The Furnace of Moie of Maiolati Spontini, which has an elliptical shape, opened on 1 December 2007, offering several spaces where people can gather: a library, a literary café, a youth information centre, the ‘Joyce Lussu’ meeting room, a Gruppo Solidarietà documentation centre, a municipal council meeting room, and a room for the Unione dei Comuni della Media Vallesina.
Everyone shares the same address, eFFeMMe23, an acronym of Fornace Moie where the number 23 is both the street number and a reference to the year 1923, when the furnace, considered one of the largest in the Marches, was organised along industrial lines and equipped with a Hoffmann kiln
