The end point of an imposing waterfall that emerges from the Fontanon di Goriuda, in val Raccolana, is known as the “cascade of sunshine”. Accessed by a trail it is part of the Natural Park of the Julian Prealps in the municipality of Chiusaforte (UD). Its waters come from the Canin massif and pass through a complex network of karst channels, re-emerging from the mountain to fall noisily 80m into the very calm lake below.
It gets its name from the ogre Goriuda who is traditionally believed to live in these enchanted areas with his dwarves.
