The Pramosio forest extends over 495 hectares near the Italian-Austrian border.
The most important site in the forest is the glacial lake Avostanis situated at an altitude of 1,936 metres, above Paluzza (UD), whose green waters reflect creta di Timau, a 2,218m peak in the Carnian Alps.
The lower part of the Pramosio forest features mainly red and white firs, which give way to beech only in the most western sector.
