Lake Blu, or Layet lake, is situated on the regional highway that leads up the hill from Valtournenche, and can be reached in just minutes from the centre of Breuil Cervinia. Its name derives from the algae content that reflects the colour blue.
Situated in a hollow moraine, surrounded by ancient larch trees, the lake is fed with fresh spring water and is so clear that it reflects the Matterhorn looming above.
Not far off are the small Layet lakes, three ponds of spring water each a different colour positioned in a field that overlooks the valley.
