The casa sociale in the hamlet of Caltron in Cles (Trento) was created with the aim of providing a meeting place for the inhabitants of the town. The architect Mirko Franzoso designed a contemporary and sustainable building which integrates perfectly with the surrounding apple orchards, and with the town’s historical buildings.
Atop a substantial base, the compact building is structured across two floors, made mainly of wood. The short sides are clad with vertical slats, while the long sides are characterized by a range of vertical pillars which create an interesting alternation of full and empty spaces. The ground floor comprises the large meeting room and service rooms such as bathroom, office and kitchen. The upper floor, also accessible from the outside, is an open space which offers an admirable view over the valley.
In addition, the structure features a car park and a playground.
