In Bolotana (NU), in the centre of Sardinia, a garden of autochthonous plants, exotic varieties and unusual crossbred trees provide the setting for Villa Piercy.
Set over 4 hectares among the hills of Marghine and the Campeda high plain, it is the legacy left by Benjamin Piercy, a Welsh engineer who came to Sardinia in 1863 to help design the Cagliari-Olbia and Chilivani-Porto Torres railroad line. In exchange for the service on the largest public works of the time in Sardinia he received several terrains in the Bolotana area, where he realized a modern farm.
On the premises of the Badde Salighes estate (the valley of the willows) he built the majestic English style villa, his residence, where he lived in luxury and lavishly entertained fellow Brits and Italian friends. The rural three storey, square residence was built between 1879 and 1882. The building has four towers covered with metal domes topped with an iron pinnacle. Inside the residence some paintings embellish the ground floor rooms. The park is also in English style, with a swimming pool surrounded by trees just a short distance from the villa.
