When Bressanone (Brixen at the time, "Prihsna") was documented for the first time in the year 901, the area of Stufles had already been inhabited for centuries.
Archaeological excavations have found settlements dating to the Stone Age in this area of strategic importance for access to the Alps. Later, the Romans established numerous farms and, presumably, a transit station here.
Despite modern urbanization, Stufles is still a jewel of medieval architecture, and as such is protected by the Ministry of Culture.
