The Basilica Cattedrale di San Pardo, in Larino (CB), is a notable example of Romanesque-Gothic style on a 13th century building that was subsequently adapted and embellished many times.
The facade of the church, dedicated to Our Lady of the Assumption and the town’s patron saint San Pardo, is worthy of note. The stone structure develops horizontally, with a wooden portal in the lower register, adorned with slim spiral columns, while the upper part has double mullioned windows flanking a rose window whose 13 spokes represent Jesus and the 12 apostles. To the right of the façade, the bell tower rises over a pointed arch and was built in 1451 to replace the earlier one. Thanks to the 19th century appreciation of medieval architecture, the cathedral reclaimed part of the original Romanesque-Gothic style which had always characterized it with simplicity and elegance.
