The Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Consolation of Montovolo, in the municipality of Grizzana Morandi (BO), is located on the slopes of Montovolo a mountain in the Bolognese Apennine range, rising on the right valley of the river Reno. Built in the 12th century and Romanesque in style, the façade in local stone has a pitched roof while the sundial on the bell tower still functions today. The church houses a polychrome statue of Our Lady of Montovolo, which dates between the 15th and 16th centuries, and a 10th-11th century crypt that survived from the previous Proto-Romanesque church, divided into three semi-circular apses with Romanesque capitals decorated with symbols typical of the Byzantine period in the area of Ravenna.
