Pilastro is a neighbourhood in the eastern suburbs of Bologna with large, residential row buildings surrounded by green areas. On the administrative level it belongs to the San Donato-San Vitale neighbourhood.
It was created in the early 1960s to accommodate growing immigration to the city. Residential and commercial building work continued there until the mid-1980s and started again in 2000. During its history, the area has become one of the most degraded in Bologna despite numerous recovery attempts by the town councils. The Uno Bianca band carried out one of their bloodies crimes in this neighbourhood.
