Perugia’s civil airport San Francesco d’Assisi is located in Sant’Egidio approximately 12km from Perugia and Assisi and was restructured in 2011 by Gae Aulenti. The 4,700 sqm air terminal is composed of 8 square pavilions of reinforced concrete which are painted red with green-coloured bronze sloping roofs and large windows that open onto a view of Assisi. The pavilions on the landside house the waiting areas, a coffee bar, a conference room and an exhibition area. Those on the airside house the arrival and departure lounges. A shopping area flanked by two rows of shops crosses the inside space and behind this are the two administrative zones, with individual offices arranged in an orderly manner. The restaurant occupies two pavilions, similar in form and dimension to those in the passenger area. Facing the entrance, two parking areas, planted with olive trees, provide a total of 400 spaces.
