Located in Trambileno, the Hermitage of San Colombano is built, to a half height, on a sheer peak about 120m high; it can be reached on foot down a short track and a staircase of 102 steps carved out of the rockface.
Protected from the weather by a natural roof of rock, it is dedicated to the saint that, legend holds, was a young knight who killed the dragon that was causing the death of children baptised in the waters of the Leno River below.
It is likely that the hermitage was inhabited since 753. There is no certainty about the date of the building of the small church and adjacent dormitory although these are believed to date after 1000.
