The Sanctuary of San Romedio is situated on a steep spur of rock in the midst of the natural landscape of the Val di Non, in the municipality of Coredo (Trento). It is composed of five churches built over the 900 years from 1000 to 1918 at the foot of a sheer rock face and linked to each other with a spectacular staircase of 130 steps.
The place became famous because of the hermit Romedio di Thaur. After his death, his followers dug his tomb in the rock, and it became a well-known pilgrimage site. It can be reached by car by driving through the Val di Non to Sanzeno, where a narrow, tarmacked road leads through a canyon for 1km to the parking area.
