As with every year, awards season for the cinema industry begins with the Golden Globes, which often anticipates Oscar night and this year also celebrates, in part, Italy.

The win for Best Miniseries went to The White Lotus, HBO series created, written and directed by Mike White which followed the first season, about a week in the life of the staff and guests in a resort in Hawaii, with a second of seven episodes based in Sicily. The stories of staff and guests move between the town of Taormina and another hotel in the imaginary “The White Lotus” chain; the (real) San Domenico Palace was founded in 1374 as a Dominican monastery, extended in 1896, and later transformed into a hotel with the addition of an Art Deco building. The episodes feature much of the beauty of the surroundings, including the Greek theatre, Giardini Naxos, and Etna with her flares of fire.

The international cast stars F. Murray Abraham, Jennifer Coolidge, Adam DiMarco, Meghann Fahy, Jon Gries, Tom Hollander, Michael Imperioli, Theo James, Aubrey Plaza, Haley Lu Richardson, Will Sharpe, Leo Woodall, and a group of Italian actors, including: Sabrina Impacciatore, Beatrice Grannò, Simona Tabasco. In addition, Jennifer Coolidge won Best Supporting Actress.
