Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey will be shooting in the Egadi Islands in Sicily with a good part of the locations on the island of Favignana.  The information comes from Variety which notes that the Sicilian shoot, handled by Italy’s Wildside who recently managed the Rome production of Edward Berger’s Conclave, should begin in about two months on Favignana, "the island of goats": believed to be the place where Homer imagined Odysseus landing with his motley crew to roast goats and stock up on food. The other locations to be announced are the United Kingdom and Morocco.

Universal Pictures announced Nolan's new project on social media at the end of December, noting that it would be an epic, mythological action film shot around the world using brand-new IMAX cinema technology and specifying: "The film brings Homer's founding saga to IMAX cinema screens for the first time and will be released in theatres worldwide on 17 July 2026".

The production team includes Nolan and Emma Thomas, under their banner Syncopy, for Universal Pictures. The Italian line-producer is Erik Paoletti. Names apparently confirmed for the cast include Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron.
