The film makes a direct and candid presentation of the often unfavourable conditions of present-day factory workers in Italy, highlighting the difficulties and hypocrisy, the issues of individual rights and the limits of provincial thinking. All this takes place in a village in Abruzzo and various locations in the province of Chieti were used as locations.
Many scenes were shot in Vasto, both in the residential centre with its alleyways and Piazza del Duomo, and in the coastal area of Punta Penna, famous for its lighthouse and trabocchi, where the factory is based.
Other locations included the village of Cupello, home to one of the main characters, San Sebastiano dei Marsi and the natural landscapes near Schiavi d’Abruzzo in the Majella National Park and Pescasseroli in the National Park of Abruzzo.
