The film tells the mysterious story of Kaspar Hauser: a young man found on a beach who was presumed to be the scion of a noble family and who would later be killed by an unknown hand. The case, which became famous in 19th century Germany, is brought to the screen here by Davide Manuli as a timeless Western with an atmosphere as surreal as its lead character.
The setting is the sun-drenched and arid Peninsula del Sinis, a protected area that extends for approximately 26,000 hectares across the territory of Cabras, in the province of Oristano, with white quartz beaches, lakes, cliffs and the beach of Putzu Idu.
Part of the film is set on the Island dell’Asinara, which holds the ruins of the maximum security prison where Kaspar was imprisoned for several years of his life.
