I have the impression of forgetting something every day
From the title on, Mi fanno male I capelli, Roberta Torre's film is a tribute to Monica Vitti, the beloved Italian actress who passed away in 2022 from a neurodegenerative disease.
The actress and Monica (Alba Rohrwacher), who has begun to forget and is desperately searching for something to hold on to as she feels she is losing part of her memory, are brought together by a degenerative disease. Monica Vitti, who managed to be all possible women portraying every weakness and fragility, becomes her lifeline; to give meaning to her life again, Monica begins to borrow memories from the actress, identifying with the characters she played in films: she dresses like her, imitates her, and recreates scenes from her films. Edoardo (Filippo Timi) loves her deeply and allows this game to become their new reality.
The main setting for the film is a villa overlooking the beach of Sperlonga, in lower Lazio: here Monica gradually transforms into her idol, finding it increasingly difficult to distinguish reality and the fictional screen images she watches endlessly or imagines in the mirror.
Monica walks along the long beach of soft, golden sand of “Ponente” beach, in a blue dress with a train that recalls that of Vitti in Polvere di Stelle, looking for the taxi to take her to the inauguration of Alberto Sordi's house-museum. She later walks through the city centre to the Cinema Augusto, where she has an intense conversation, mediated by the big screen, with the woman who is now her friend, confidant and alter ego.
