Anna, title character of the film by Palermo director Marco Amenta, lives in symbiosis with Sardinia, her land.
Filmed mostly in Sardinian dialect (mainly Campidanese) by an almost entirely local cast– including Rose Aste from San Sperato who plays Anna – the film was shot on the island. It tells the story of a young woman prepared to fight for herself and her land. As beautiful, wild and magnetic as the uncontaminated nature of her Sardinia, a place that heals her wounds and nourishes her soul, Anna follows the rhythm of the land. That harsh land protects her, until the day she must protect it from the mechanical monsters seeking to exploit it.
Inspired by contemporary events in Sardinia, Anna's is a story of resistance against the unscrupulous power of a blind capitalism ready to destroy everything and the power of a chauvinist and domineering society.
The island itself, Sardinia, is also a main character. "It fills me with pride to have the opportunity to show lesser-known places: we filmed in Muravera, Arborea and Marceddì" notes Rose Aste.
Muravera (Southern Sardinia) was the main location. Nearby Capo Ferrato, a hamlet of Muravera, is the location for the farm, which actually exists, and the beach of Feraxi, on the south-eastern coast. The town was prevalently filmed in Marceddì, hamlet of Terralba, in the Oristano area. Other locations included Cagliari and Arborea.
