At the foot of the Campidoglio, Piazza Venezia – where some of the main roads in the historical centre spin off – is one of Rome’s most scenic places and the entry point for the Imperial Fora, located just steps from the piazza.
Dominated by the Vittoriano – the white monument inaugurated in 1911 in honour of the first king of Italy – buildings of various styles stand on the square: the Renaissance Palazzo Venezia, its mirror image Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali, built in the 20th century, 17th century Palazzo Bonaparte, home to Napoleon’s mother and the Basilica of St. Mark.
