Positioned at extreme end of the province of Asti, almost on the border with the region of Liguria, Langa Astigiana is an area with many elements of great charm: the altitude of the hills where vineyards gradually give way to hazelnut groves, pastures and woods; the climate that reflects the closeness of the sea and allows gorse and rare orchids to flourish; its small medieval borgos and ancient watchtowers built, as per tradition, to warn of Saracen invasions; in addition, the entire territory is crisscrossed with beautiful thoroughfares and trails for hiking, mountain biking or horseback riding.
The most famous borgos in the area, especially for wine production, include: the extensive Bubbio, built on a terrace of rock; Mombaldone, set in the Badlands; Roccaverano with the stone buildings typical of Langa, well known also for its production of Robiola cheese; Spigno Bormida, Loazzolo and little Sessame. The municipality of Monastero Bormida stands out for its medieval castle in the heart of the town, with a 27m high tower, and a perfectly preserved, imposing humpbacked Romanesque bridge.
