Lake Fedaia is located near the Fedaia pass, in the municipality of Canazei (Trento), at an altitude of 2,030m and comprises both natural and man-made components. The man-made part, approximately 2km long, is barred by a dam (maximum height of 60m) which provides 20 MW in hydroelectric energy since 1956. The natural part of the lake is about 160m long and is blocked by moraine sediments.
In ancient times, lake Fedaia marked the border between the principality of Bressanone (Brixen), once part of the Austrian monarchy, and the Republic of Venice.
