The Forte Buso dam is located in the municipality of Predazzo (Trento) about 4km from the hamlet of Bellamonte in the narrows of the Travignolo river. Its construction dates to 1950-1953 immediately following the commissioning of the Caoria power plant, which is still powered by the dam today.
The dam is part of the Cismon extension, along with the Val Schener dam, and takes its name from the Austro-Hungarian fort located above it. Its dam creates the reservoir of Paneveggio, also known as lake Forte Buso, which is included in the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Natural Park. The lake is located in the valley of Rio Travignolo, between Dossaccio and the Bragarolo peaks of the Lagorai Chain. State road 50, in the stretch connecting Passo Rolle to Bellamonte, skirts its northern shore.
