The small town of Egna is a typical early Medieval merchant village established in 1189 by bishop Corrado of Trento. By the 13th century, the counts of Tyrol had replaced the bishops, making the judicial district of Egna (Landgericht Enn-Kaldiff) one of their bases in val d’Adige. At the same time, they concentrated their investments in Bolzano, creating the look that the village offers almost intact today. The recently restored arcades are very picturesque.
